Keepin’ it real with this article, my friends.
I’m in the process of doing a hard reset on some basic self-care practices and establishing some new routines in a way that sticks. I do that from time to time – I wipe my slate clean and totally revamp and refresh what I’m doing.
In July, it wasn’t my choice; the universe insisted on it.
I got slammed with a migraine and the universe benched me for a little while. I’ve had them often enough to know what usually staves them off for me…staying in front of sleep, eating well, rest, hydration, none of which I was bringing my A-game to in the weeks leading up. Let’s just call a spade a spade – I was totally backsliding. Despite my last-ditch efforts to keep the train on the tracks, it got the best of me. Crash and burn ahead.
Stress 1. Pam 0.
I’m gonna just go ahead and put it out there and say that I’m practically addicted to growth, personally and professionally. So much so that admittedly sometimes it overtakes me. Doing what sets your soul on fire can be a double-edged sword. Quite frankly, I want to help everybody. Yes, all 7.6 billion people on this planet. I was built to heal, nurture, take care of others. But sometimes that comes at the expense of taking care of myself as much as I should.
Turbo mode has long been my MO, but trust me, that model has an expiration date. Something’s got to give at some point.
Do you ever feel like that? So immersed and lit up by your passions that you start backsliding in the basics?
Sometimes I think the rules don’t apply to me and I forget I have any physical world limitations. Sometimes I try to eke out just a little more each day, in an attempt to give, impact, serve, provide, inspire, create, a little more than I did the day before. My passion for what I do admittedly becomes borderline addictive. Wait, scratch that, take out the borderline part.
It truly is a labor of love and an honor to have the opportunity to show up in each of my roles every single day.
But it is possible to have too much of a good thing.
The time I was benched was a gift from the universe. I took the opportunity to reconnect and re-anchor on truths that needed to be brought back into focus.
Through this experience, I was reminded that…
- I am human. Not superhuman.
- The people I surround myself with fuel my mission in a big way.
- Doing one task at a time is more effective than multitasking.
- Rest and relaxation is non-negotiable.
- I don’t need to be all things to all people at all times.
- Sometimes we need to slow down in order to speed up.
I’d encourage you to reflect on these recently-cemented awarenesses and challenge yourself to up the bar on your own self-care game.
I am now enjoying the benefits of re-investing in myself, and there is more of an ease and an organicness, and a flow than ever before.
Welcome the setbacks, my friends. They’re here to serve you.
Have an amazing week!
