I’m super-pumped to be moving into “next level” spiritual topics. Up to this point, we have covered several topics that serve as a solid foundation for your spiritual growth. But now I’m feeling the pull to move into more advanced spiritual concepts. This blog post is the first in a three-part series, where we explore masculine and feminine energies.
Masculine and Feminine Energies, Defined
Let’s start by talking about what masculine and feminine energies are and what they are not. When you hear the terms masculine and feminine, you may immediately think of gender. And that women are associated with feminine energy, and males are associated with masculine energy.
That’s a reasonable place to start, given what life conditions us to think about these roles. But when we explore the topic of masculine and feminine energies from an energy perspective, we begin to understand the importance of balancing the two polar energies within each of us. And we may achieve a state of being whole and complete.
Energetically speaking, we all have feminine and masculine energies within us.
Every life experience allows us to learn about ourselves. And as part of that we can assess where we fall in the spectrum of masculine and feminine, and constantly make strides and adjustments to balance the energies within us.
The key traits associated with masculine energy are: logic, goal-oriented, giving, doing, controlling, providing, protecting, competition, analysis, motion, action, being more closed, forcing.
The key traits associated with feminine energy are intuition, creativity, emotion, receiving, being, focusing on the journey, nurturing, still/tranquil, sensitivity, being more open, flowing.
You may find that you have characteristics and behaviors from both the masculine and feminine energies, or you may find that you are more polarized, falling more squarely into one category over the other.
Remember, there is no right or wrong answer here. The first step is gaining an awareness of where you currently are so you can incorporate new behaviors and energies into your life.
Why is it Important to Embody Masculine and Feminine Energy?
As you probably know by now, before we dive into what to do, we first need to explore the deep-seated why. We have to understand why it’s important, and how incorporating new concepts and ideas can change our life for the better.
There are many reasons why balancing masculine and feminine energies within us is important, but in my mind, the most compelling reason is that we will always have everything we need within us. You’ll never need to rely on anything outside of yourself to feel whole and complete.
When we achieve this state of wholeness and completion, we harness our true power. This is when we step fully into our authenticity, claim our power, attract better, and gain massive momentum. It is from this place that we experience unprecedented levels of independence, empowerment, and self-actualization.
In the context of relationships, I believe that one of the main reasons that relationship problems arise is that we often look to another person to make us happy. We look to them to complete us.
I remember a couple of years ago when one of my friends and I were talking about relationships (and he was giving me dating advice), he said, “If anybody ever says to you, “You complete me, run!” I still laugh about that. But there really is a more profound message there.
What he was saying, from a soul work perspective, was that there’s more work to do. Whenever we look outside of ourselves for happiness or completion, it’s an indication that we haven’t yet achieved the ultimate spiritual union within ourselves.
The Law of Attraction says “like attracts like” and if we are attracting from a state of feeling unfulfilled or incomplete, we will also attract someone else who is unfulfilled or incomplete.
When we achieve a state of spiritual union within ourselves, a well-balanced blend of the divine masculine and feminine energies, we will attract someone who has also achieved this balance.
What Can You Do This Week to Explore the Masculine and Feminine Energies Within You?
Before we can explore how to balance the energies within us, we must first do some work around self-awareness. Here are some questions you can explore this week:
- Are you emotional or logical?
- Are you right-brained or left-brained?
- Do you like giving or receiving?
- Are you competitive or cooperative?
- Do you focus on the outcome or the journey?
- Are you in a constant state of doing, or comfortable with being?
- Do you rely on intuition or logic?
- Are you concerned with the order?
- Do you identify more with physical strength or emotional strength?
- Do you have a tendency to surrender or control?
- How creative are you?
- Are you more introspective and closed off, or extroverted and open?
- Do you focus on your physical world and appearances, or your emotional world and inner being?
- Are you more protective or vulnerable?
- Are you more firm or gentle?
Take some time this week to journal your reflections on these questions. Remember there are no right or wrong answers; the goal is to get to know yourself better.
What’s Next?
In the next two posts, we will take a deeper dive into masculine and feminine energies. We will talk about how to recognize imbalances and explore what you can do to better balance the energies within yourself.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
